The Backyard Ultra format is simple: Run 6.7056 kilometers every hour, on the hour until you are the last person standing. All you need to do is be in the corral at the start of every hour for the bell and be back in time for the next bell. “Just one more” as easy as that.
Each loop starts exactly 1 hour after the last one started… ie: 10:00am, 11:00am, 12noon etc .
There will be a warning sound at 3 minutes, 2 minutes & 1 minute prior to start each hour.
If you are not in the starting corral when the lap starts you DNF. No late starts. No exceptions.
Except for toilet stops runners may not leave the course until each lap is completed. There are portaloos in Basecamp near the corral. No toileting out on course or you risk being disqualified.
No non-competitors on the course including eliminated runners. The tracks are open to the general public including other runners, dog walkers and mountain bikers, please be courteous but do not accept any assistance.
Assistance is only allowed in Basecamp during the time you have remaining after you have completed a lap and before the start whistle goes for the next lap. No assistance during a lap.
Each lap must be completed within the hour to be counted, including the final lap.
No artificial aids including poles.
Slower runners must allow faster runners to pass. Faster runners must give slower runners time to make room for them to pass. No pushing and shoving.
This is a self-supported event in that you must provide all your own food and fluid requirements. There is no aid station provided.
The winner is the last person to complete a loop.
Everyone else is a DNF.
If no one manages to complete a final loop on their own, then there is no winner. This has happened before.
You must report to the timing team when you decide you cannot go on. Do not just leave Basecamp, we don’t want to send volunteers out on the course to look for you.
Volunteers
We’re always on the hunt for some amazing volunteers to help over the weekend.
If you want to come and be part this awesome event but you can’t run then get in touch about being a volunteer.
Teams
We have a four person teams event. Competitors run their own race, at the end the most combined laps will win. Once your team have all entered just flick me an email with your team name and team members. If we get enough entries there will be Male, Female and Mixed teams. Also a best dressed category.
